October 23, 2016

Hello BCS!

It was another great week at BCS!  Smiles, energy and a passion to learn continued.  If you haven’t “liked” Birmingham Covington School on Facebook yet, please do so and check out some pictures from the week. Be sure to save the date for the first Proud Dads Eat and Run of the year.  Proud Moms, Dads, Aunts, Loved Ones, join your BCS kid(s) & their friends for lunch and fun on Friday, November 4, 2016 (3/4 at 11:45am; 5/6 at 11:05am and 7/8 at 12:45pm).

Be sure your child shows their creativity through the PTSA Reflections contest!  The 2016-2017 PTSA Reflections Program has kicked off and projects are due Friday, November 11.  This year’s theme is What Is Your Story?  Write a story, draw or take a picture, make a movie, make music, perform dance.  Click the PTSA Reflections Link for all the details, entry form, and rules.  All artwork, including Summer Packet entries, can be placed in the Reflections box in the Media Center.

With our Halloween festivities just about a week away, we would like to remind you that BCS will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 31 which is a half day for students (11:30 AM dismissal-no choice hour).  At BCS, we welcome parents and guardians to join in our festivities which will begin with our annual all-school parade at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 31.  Parents should remain outside to avoid congestion in our hallways (weather permitting, we’ll parade indoors if it’s raining), and the students will proceed outside (east end of building) starting with 3/4 followed by 5/6 and 7/8 students.  The classroom parties will follow the parade immediately back in the students’ homerooms/academic labs around 10:30 AM.  The parties will conclude at 11:15 AM to clean up and prepare for dismissal at 11:30 a.m. (no Choice Hour on half days). Please be sure your child is dressed in an appropriate costume in order to avoid scaring any of our younger students.

We ask that students avoid the following:

Some suggestions for costumes include:  Inventors, Animals, clothing from an historical period, Presidents, Ethnic clothing, Community helpers (police, fire fighter…), Super heroes, Careers (doctor, teacher, engineer…), Book characters, Sports (football player, snowboarder, marathoner…), Friendly characters, Food. You could even develop a costume that embraces our BCS Theme At BCS We Value the 3E’s – Education, Environment, Each Other!  Remember that children tend to “act” their costumes, so the appropriateness of the costume is important.  Thank you in advance for helping make this day an enjoyable one for our students.  Happy Halloween!

BCS is a great place to be!  We’re looking forward to our second great week of learning together at BCS!

Wishing you well,
