Hello BCS!

It was another great week at BCS!  Smiles, energy and a passion to learn continued.  If you haven’t “liked” Birmingham Covington School on Facebook yet, please do so and check out some pictures from the week. As a reminder, Tuesday, September 27 is our first Delayed Start of the year!  BCS faculty will be engaged in professional learning and school begins for students at 9:48 AM (doors open at 9:30 AM).

Smile…..PICTURE DAY at BCS is tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 26, 2016.  Every student will have their picture taken on Monday by Kaiser Studio!!  Students were given picture order forms today in their academic lab/homeroom class and were asked to bring them home.  Pictures of your child(ren) may be purchased by either of the following methods (please note all credit card orders must utilize the online ordering process):

·       Online ordering is available now through September 29.  Please go to the website:  www.kaiserstudio.com and click “Order Pictures”.  The BCS school code is BCS09.  You can choose from 15 different and colorful backgrounds.  Online orders are easy – no form has to be returned to the school!!

·       Picture order form – Please send the completed picture form with payment with your child on September 26.  Your child will give the order form directly to the photographer.  Order forms should NOT be turned into the office.

Pictures will arrive at school 2-3 weeks after picture day.  Picture retake day is Thursday, October 27th for students absent on picture day or for students wishing to have their picture retaken.  Dress up and smile!

As an important reminder, Spring 2016 M-STEP Parent Reports will go home with students in grades 4-8 at the end of the day on Thursday, September 29.  Click here for the link to the parent letter that was sent via eNews last Thursday.

At BCS we are always seeking to improve the educational experience we provide to our students. We appreciate and value your thoughts and ideas and invite you to reflect on the 2016 Summer Packet in order to help us with our process of continual improvement. If you have children at different grade levels, you can complete the survey multiple times. Thank you in advance for taking the time to give us your feedback of how to improve the summer packet experience for our students.  Click the following link to complete the brief survey:  https://goo.gl/forms/B00DYa6Iy7SGnXGz1.

BCS is a great place to be!  We’re looking forward to our second great week of learning together at BCS!

·        “Respect is what we owe; love, what we give.” – Philip James Bailey

·        “This world of ours... must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower

·        “A person's a person, no matter how small.” – Dr. Seuss

Edutopia.org Filming at BCS – 10/18/16 THROUGH 10/20/16

We have some exciting news to announce as we prepare for another great year of learning at BCS.  Last school year, we were contacted and interviewed by Edutopia.org with their interest in featuring BCS in their Schools that Work series; their “flagship series [that] highlights practices and case studies from K-12 schools and districts that are improving the way students learn.”  After extensive interviews, we learned that, in fact, Edutopia will be spotlighting BCS in their series.  They will be visiting this fall (10/18/16-10/20/16) with their production crew to capture footage for their series highlighting what we do at BCS.  To that end, Edutopia is seeking parent permission in case they choose to use footage that includes your child.  Click here for the letter from Edutopia with further details regarding permission.  Please read the letter which provides directions on granting permission through an online form, as well as what to do if you decide not to grant permission. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our CSO, Cindy Balicki (cbalicki@birmingham.k12.mi.us) or principal, Mark Morawski (mmorawski@birmingham.k12.mi.us).  Thank you for your attention to this exciting opportunity to highlight our innovative school!
