April 10, 2016

 Hello BCS!

I hope you and your family has some time for rest and relaxation in whatever way you could during our spring vacation.  I hope your children are as ready and their teachers and I am to return, finish the year strong and continue great learning experiences.  As always, please be sure to check out some pictures each week on the Birmingham Covington School Facebook page.  Also, in case you missed earlier this week the exciting update and review of our partnership with Project COPE Zambia, click here to read all about it!

Please be sure to join us this week, Thursday, April 14, for our April PTSA Clearinghouse meeting at 1:15 PM.  Our PE teachers will be sharing how they use heart rate monitors that were funded by our PTSA.  Also, we will be seeking nominations for Volunteer of the Year and PTSA Management positions for next year.  Finally, the 2016-17 PTSA budget will be proposed at this meeting and then voted on at the May meeting.

The BCS Diversity Committee presents our 2015-16 Film Series.  Please join the BCS Diversity Committee for any of the three films remaining in our series focused on local and global gender issues that affect each of us. All films are for adults only and will be shown in the BCS Media Center from 6:30-8:30 PM with a guided dialogue following each film.  The next film, Boys of Baraka, will be shown on Tuesday, April 12. For the flyer with all the details and to RSVP, click here or to RSVP directly for the next film, click here!

Be sure to sign up for our BCS Proud Dads Golf Outing which will be on Sunday, April 24 at 3:00 PM.  Check out all the details and sign up here.

ATTENTION EIGHTH GRADE PARENTS:

If your child plans on going to Groves High School next year, please encourage them to apply for Groves Student Congress (GSC). This organization helps to plan high school events such as spirit week, homecoming, pep rallies, and barbecues that encourage school spirit throughout the year. It is a group of students of all interests, ages, and backgrounds. GSC is an inviting environment that can provide your child with new friends and familiar faces in the halls on their very first day. It runs as a class that takes place during third hour, and if your child is in GSC, it will take the place of two electives in their schedule. As eighth graders, students can apply to be a freshmen member at large by filling out an application (now available in the office). Applications are due April 14th and will be followed by an interview of each applicant on April 21st. If your child is selected to be in GSC, his/her counselor will contact you and your child concerning scheduling. Please encourage your child to become involved with student government!
