November 1, 2015

Hello BCS!

It was another great week at BCS!  Ending with our Halloween festivities, smiles, energy and a passion to learn continued.  If you haven’t “liked” Birmingham Covington School on Facebook yet, please do so to check out some pictures from the week.  Also, don’t forget that this Tuesday, November 3 is a records day for teachers and Election Day, so there is no school for our students.

We look forward to seeing our parents at this week’s “Proud Dads Eat & Run” coordinated by our Proud Dads for any proud moms, dads or loved ones to join their child(ren) during their lunchtime on Friday, November 6.  Times are as follows:

·       11:05 AM for 5/6

·       11:45 AM for 3/4

·       12:45 PM for 7/8

Join your BCS kid(s) & their friends for lunch & fun. Bring your child’s favorite lunch or purchase from the cafeteria (bring a little extra for a friend).  After lunch, spend some special time at recess with your children and their friends.  BE A KID AGAIN!  If you won’t be attending, please let your child know. They really look forward to sharing this time with you! We hope to see you Friday at our first Eat & Run of the year.

Also, our November PTSA meeting is this Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 PM in our Engineering Technology Lab.  The meeting with kick off with a short presentation from J.P. Prisciandaro and our Eng. Tech. program at BCS and how our PTSA supports it.  We hope to see you there!

Finally, this coming week marks the kick-off of our Birmingham Education Foundation’s Annual Fund Campaign. This year, the theme is “8,000 Reasons to Give! What’s Your Reason?”  The BEF’s generous grants to schools in our district truly help make Birmingham Public Schools unique.  Plus, the BEF’s support of BCS specifically, has enhanced our students’ experience at our great school.  When considering your charitable giving options as the year comes to a close, we hope you choose a donation to BEF.  To find out more about the mission and purpose of BEF click here or go ahead and make an online donation now.  Thank you for your consideration!

BCS is a great place to be!  We’re looking forward to another great week of learning at BCS!

Wishing you well,

Character Connections Word of the week: POSITIVITY

Infuse this word into your conversations/lessons with your family as a character education focus.  Talk about the quotes.  There will be a new word every two weeks.

·       “Being miserable is a habit; being happy is a habit; and the choice is yours.” – Tom Hopkins

·       “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” – John Wooden

·       “You cannot tailor-make the situations in life but you can tailor-make the attitudes to fit those situations.” – Zig Ziglar

Thank you in advance for adhering to Arrival/Dismissal Safety and Courtesy Reminders:

·       Please ONLY allow your children to get out of car at the curb/sidewalk (not on the inner circle) and exit the PASSENGER SIDE (right side) of the car only.

·       Please do not block the parking spaces in the BCS parking lot in front of the swimming pool/shed area at any time (particularly arrival and dismissal times). Many of these parking spaces are assigned parking, including handicap spaces, which need to remain accessible at all times.  Students can be dropped off and picked up in either of our two drop off/pick up loops between the parking lots.  Thank you for your attention to this!

·       Above all, drive SLOWLY and PATIENTY and a POSITIVE ATTITUDE is our choice!
