October 4, 2015

Hello BCS!

It was another great week at BCS!  Smiles, energy and a passion to learn continued.  If you haven’t “liked” Birmingham Covington School on Facebook yet, please do so to check out some pictures our first week.

We wanted to let you know that Sally Battle, our counseling/enrollment secretary, will be retiring at the end of October with her final day with us being Friday, October 23.  We wish Sally well as she embarks on this next chapter of her life and thank her for her 18 years of service to BPS.  She started her BPS career right here at BCS as a paraprofessional.  After 2 years, she moved into the BCS front office with former secretary, Sue Lee.  When her position was eliminated in 2009, she found herself a position at Berkshire Middle school in the attendance office.  After 4.5 years at Berkshire, she returned to BCS in January 2014.  While we are excited for her as she retires, we will miss seeing her in and around BCS.  Thank you, Sally, for your years of service to BPS, and specifically, the BCS community that you’ve been a part of as both a parent and staff member. Please join me in congratulating Sally Battle!  While we won’t be able to replace Sally, we will certainly find another great staff member to add to our front office team.  The search for this person begins.  Should you know of a prospective candidate who may be interested in this secretarial position, please feel free to share the job posting by clicking here.  Congratulations Sally!

Our BCS Proud Dads annual meeting is tomorrow night! JOIN US!  ARE YOU PROUD OF YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS?  Proud Dads, join us for our ONE and ONLY BCS Proud Dad’s Annual meeting tomorrow, Monday, October 5 at 6:30-7:15 PM at the Dick O’Dows.  Click here for the flyer with all the details!  We need you there.  Plus, enjoy some Monday Night Football with other dads after the meeting.  Thank you in advance for your attendance! Contact Your Proud Dad Leaders, Nate Black, Mike Richardson and David Wilner at prouddadsbcs@gmail.com with questions.

We look forward to seeing our 3/4 parents at our annual 3/4 Coney Bingo Night this Thursday, October 8 from 6:30-8:00 PM in the cafeteria.  What a better reason to come together with our 3/4 community than over some bingo and Coney’s!

Lastly, 2015-2016 PTSA Reflections Program Kicks off this week with projects due Friday, November 13.  This year’s theme is “Let Your Imagination Fly.”  Write a story, draw or take a picture, make a movie, make music, perform dance.  Click here for all the details, entry form, and rules.  All artwork, including Summer Packet entries, can be placed in the Reflections box in the Media Center.

BCS is a great place to be!  We’re looking forward to another great week of learning at BCS!

Wishing you well,

Character Connections Word of the week: INTEGRITY

Infuse this word into your conversations/lessons with your family as a character education focus.  Talk about the quotes.  There will be a new word every two weeks.

·       “The measure of a man's real character is what he would do if he knew he never would be found out.” – Thomas Babington Macaulay

·       “If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity, nothing else matters.” – Alan Simpson

·       “Character is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. There are too many people who think that the only thing that's right is to get by, and the only thing that's wrong is to get caught.” – J.C. Watts
