Hello BCS!

It was another great week at BCS!  Smiles, energy and a passion to learn continued.  If you haven’t “liked” Birmingham Covington School on Facebook yet, please do so to check out some pictures our first week.  While you’re at it, be sure to “like” BCS 20 Year Celebration as well, to view some history of BCS as we prepare for the reunion celebration on Saturday, November 28 from 3-6 PM.

We were thrilled this week to see our 3/4 and 5/6 parents and guardians at Curriculum Night the last two Thursdays, and we look forward to seeing our 7/8 parents at this Thursday’s Curriculum Night (9/24/14) with the following agenda:

·         6:00 PM – PTSA Reception in the main hallway, come and mingle with the other 7/8 parents and guardians

·         6:30 PM – Welcome from the principals, Co-Curricular teachers and PTSA in the media center

BPS Bond Update! Thanks to voter support last May, BPS now begins building, site, infrastructure and technology work utilizing those bond proceeds. The first series of the bond sales closed in June and bids for initial work in the district have begun. The district selected Plante Moran CRESA as its owners’ representative at the Sept. 1 Board of Education meeting. The next steps include the selection of the architect, construction manager and technology design firm. Initial work will be behind the scenes work that will not disrupt the school day.  Major work will start during the summer of 2016. The district will provide more updates as work progresses.

BCS is a great place to be!  We’re looking forward to another great week of learning at BCS!

Wishing you well,

Mark Morawski

STUDENT SIGN-OUT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

If your child needs to leave school during the day they MUST be signed out in the front office. Only a parent/guardian or other person authorized on the EMERGENCY CARD can sign a student out. Please bring your driver’s license or other picture ID because our parent volunteers or office staff will need it to check for proper authorization on the EMERGENCY CARD. Please arrive to the office in sufficient time to allow for verifications and to call your child down from their classroom. Please do not call the office to ask for an advance sign-out or to have your child wait in the office for your arrival. This same procedure applies during the Choice Hour program.  In addition, once the office staff has checked identification and authorization on the EMERGENCY CARD, a pink slip will be issued to you, which needs to be taken to the Choice Hour desk.  The student helpers will assist you by locating and retrieving your child.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.
