Educational Technology

Twenty-first century learning skills are the new 3 R’s for our students.  Teachers at Birmingham Covington School designed a unique curriculum that inherently built the capacity for all students to become effective learners in our knowledge-based, digital society.  The Engage program at Covington captures student interest and imagination in science, engineering, math, and technology.  Projects and challenges offered through engage are specifically designed to develop student literacy in and across each of these arenas.

Shortly after acquiring a Masters in Educational Technology, Mat Brown was given a opportunity to transition from teaching 7-8 Science to starting a project-based program called Engage.  Mat is an avid “learner” and “do-er” and believes that all students can learn anything they are passionate about.  He genuinely enjoys the company of his students, as well as the grade level at which he teaches.  His personal best memory of 7th grade is one of having met his then future wife, Amy.  He has two gifts from her, Emma and Ethan, his true new purpose in life.
