  • Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences - Be sure to plan ahead so you don’t miss PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES – Thanksgiving 2017! On Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21, BCS and all elementary schools in the district will host parent-teacher conferences. That said, Thanksgiving is also the same week. Unfortunately, teachers will not be able to accommodate rescheduled conferences due to early vacations, so please plan to attend your child’s conference on Monday or Tuesday during the 1:00-4:00 PM or 5:00-8:00 PM time frames. Specific information and links to sign up for conferences will be shared on Monday, October 30.

  • 2017-2018 PTSA Reflections Art Award Program - Unleash your Inner Artist - Reflect on the theme, WITHIN REACH, and create original art in the categories of dance, film production, literature, music, photography and visual arts. Enter to win recognition, prizes, and scholarships.  The top 2 BCS entries from each category will go on to the BPS District Program and possibly State and/or National recognition. Participants will be recognized/awarded at the BCS Reflections Pizza Lunch. More information can be found at PTSA Reflections page. Submit entries in the Media Center through Friday, November 10th.

  • Optional 7/8 Band/Orchestra and Spanish Trip to Chicago - 7/8 students will have the opportunity to go to Chicago April 27 – 28, 2018. Students will be able to choose either the Spanish exposure trip or the band/orchestra enrichment trip. Please click Chicago for more details. There will be an information meeting on Wednesday, November 1, 6:00pm in the Media Center. Online registration will open on Friday, November 3 at 6:00am.

  • Fall Picture Day - Picture retake day is Thursday, October 26th.

  • Yearbooks Are On Sale! - Purchase your 2017-18 BCS Yearbook Now! If you still need to purchase your BCS Yearbook, information may be found on the Jostens Yearbook Flyer. Purchase your yearbook online by following this link to JostensYearbooks.com. 8th Grade Parents: Make sure to think about ordering an ad for your graduate (Yearbook Ad Flyer)! Questions?   • This trip is full - Optional 5/6 Trip to Williamsburg and Virginia Beach - 5/6 students will have the opportunity to go to Williamsburg and Virginia Beach April 27 – May 1, 2018. For information regarding this trip, click Williamsburg. There will be an information meeting on Tuesday, October 10, 6:00pm in the BCS Media Center. If you think your child might be interested in attending this trip, we encourage you to attend the meeting. We expect the trip to fill up quickly.


  • BCS Featured by EDUTOPIA.ORG - A team from Edutopia’s Schools that Work visited BCS in October 2016 for a case study spotlighting the innovative teaching and learning at BCS. The case study, along with the five accompanying videos, was released on April 6, 2017 and can be found through a link to the article Birmingham Covington: Building a Student-Centered School. Also, the case study was featured in the ASCD SmartBrief on April 7, 2017.

    • The Ripple Effect -- A new BCS newsletter subtitled Sharing the Stories of BCS Students Making a Difference in the Lives of Others is a wonderful snapshot of some of the great work and learning that is ongoing at BCS.

    • Salmon in the Classroom -- Thanks to the generosity of the BCS PTSA and Premier Pet Supply in Beverly Hills, we are able to help the Great Lakes by raising salmon. To view the blog click here: BCS Salmon Blog. The salmon were released on May 5, 2017 into the Clinton River in Auburn Hill's Riverside Park. Of the 150 eggs, 75 live salmon were released.

    • Did you know? Every student in our school has to have their parent or guardian read the first two pages of the "Concussion Awareness Educational Material," complete the third page with the student's name and parent/guardian signature, and return the signed form back to the BCS office where it will be placed in the student's file per direction from the state. TheBestSchools.org selected BCS based on several weighted factors, including academic excellence, NAEP scores, state assessment scores, received awards and rankings, geographical diversity, and reputation. Congratulations to BCS staff, students and families for this outstanding recognition.

    • BCS has been selected by Microsoft as one of 80 outstanding Mentor Schools from around the world! Our application, video and other documents clearly showed our school’s passion for and efforts toward innovative teaching and learning.
